Discover ancient Greek technology through fully functional invention models at the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology in Athens. Visitors can explore a wide range of innovations, from early robotics and automation systems to the Antikythera Mechanism. Through more than 100 fully operational reconstructions, accompanied by rich visual material, visitors gain insight into how ancient Greek technology shaped everyday life. From the robot maid of Philo and the first cinematic devices to early telecommunication systems and complex mechanical calculations, each exhibit demonstrates the remarkable ingenuity of ancient engineers. Each installation acts as a bridge between past and present, highlighting the direct connection between ancient Greek science and modern technological development. Visitors are invited not only to observe but also to reflect on how these inventions influenced human civilization and laid the foundations for modern engineering.
The same building houses the permanent independent exhibition of Ancient Greek Musical Instruments and Toys, featuring 42 fully functional, reconstructed instruments and toys. Music played a central role in every aspect of life in ancient Greece, from education and philosophy to public ceremonies and theatrical performances. Ancient Greek music was closely linked to mathematics and philosophy, as described by thinkers such as Pythagoras and Aristoxenus, who explored harmony as an expression of universal order. Visitors gain a deeper understanding of both the theoretical foundations and the practical application of ancient musical systems. Through live demonstrations and interactive exhibits, visitors can experience how these instruments were played, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and sensory understanding. The exhibition also offers the opportunity to listen to the Seikilos epitaph—the oldest known complete musical composition—and to discover an early instrument that later evolved into the church organ.

“Ancient Greece – the Origins of Technologies”
The Museum of Ancient Greek Technology in Athens highlights the timeless technological ingenuity of antiquity through fully functional models, interactive applications, and documented reconstructions, revealing the foundations of modern science and engineering. The exhibits are the result of long-term research, combining ancient texts, archaeological evidence, and experimental reconstruction methods to accurately reproduce the original mechanisms. Each reconstruction reflects a deep understanding of ancient sources and offers a reliable interpretation of how these technologies once operated. By revealing the principles behind these inventions, the museum provides a deeper insight into the origins of modern engineering, automation, and scientific thinking, demonstrating the lasting impact of ancient Greek innovation on contemporary technology.
