This fascinating aspect of ancient Greek history—unlike their well-known achievements in fine arts or democracy—remains a mystery to many. Our mission is to shed light on this extraordinary technological legacy by bringing these ancient innovations to life for audiences of all ages.
Through years of detailed research and experimentation, over 300 ancient Greek inventions were meticulously recreated by Mr. Kostas Kotsanas, a visionary Mechanical Engineer. These inventions form the core of the Kotsanas Museum of Ancient GreekTechnology, which spans five annexes across Greece in Katakolon, Ancient Olympia, Athens, Heraklion (Crete), and Rhodes. Now, more than forty of these representative exhibits are part of our traveling exhibition.
Each exhibit is built with precision based on ancient texts, and most are fully functional, offering visitors a hands-on experience. Accompanied by rich audio-visual material in Greek and English—such as detailed diagrams, explanatory labels, and comprehensive bibliographical references—many of the exhibits are also interactive, allowing visitors to engage directly with the ancient technology. Additionally, video stations, animations, and documentaries provide further insights, with Mr. Kotsanas himself explaining the function and significance of these mechanisms.
Our traveling exhibition has already been hosted by prestigious institutions such as the National Science Museum of Korea in Daejeon, the University of Connecticut, the Science Center of Singapore, the Library of Alexandria in Egypt, the Archaeological Museum of Varese in Italy, and the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne, Australia, among others.
