A three-day celebration of history, technology & culture in the heart of Ancient Olympia!

The Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology presented for the first time a unique revival of the ancient athletic festival of the Olympian Games!

Day 1:

  • Unveiling of the fully functional bronze reconstruction of the Antikythera Mechanism by Mr. Kostas Antonopoulos, representative of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia.

  • Children’s workshop: building the “heart” of the mechanism.

  • Full presentation of all the mechanism’s functions, with special emphasis on its ability to predict the celebration of the Olympic Games!

Day 2:

  • Revival of the ancient pentathlon long jump with halteres, performed by champions @dimitris__tsiamis and @alexis__argiropoulos — with audience participation!

  • Award ceremony for Dimitris Tsiamis by the honorary director of the Antiquities of Ilia, Ms. Georgia Chatzi.

Day 3:

  • Presentation of the ancient Greek torch and the technology hidden behind it.

  • A children’s performance — a small footrace culminating in the lighting of the torch at the altar by the winner, proclaiming the new Olympionikis!

A magical connection between past and present, for all ages.
