A three-day celebration of history, technology & culture in the heart of Ancient Olympia!
The Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology presented for the first time a unique revival of the ancient athletic festival of the Olympian Games!
Day 1:
Unveiling of the fully functional bronze reconstruction of the Antikythera Mechanism by Mr. Kostas Antonopoulos, representative of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia.
Children’s workshop: building the “heart” of the mechanism.
Full presentation of all the mechanism’s functions, with special emphasis on its ability to predict the celebration of the Olympic Games!
Day 2:
Revival of the ancient pentathlon long jump with halteres, performed by champions @dimitris__tsiamis and @alexis__argiropoulos — with audience participation!
Award ceremony for Dimitris Tsiamis by the honorary director of the Antiquities of Ilia, Ms. Georgia Chatzi.
Day 3:
Presentation of the ancient Greek torch and the technology hidden behind it.
A children’s performance — a small footrace culminating in the lighting of the torch at the altar by the winner, proclaiming the new Olympionikis!
A magical connection between past and present, for all ages.
