The cupping vessel

It was a metal, glass or ceramic therapeutic instrument, which has a small opening with thick nozzle and a wider bottom. Once heated on the inside (in order to dillute the oxygen) and placed on the patient’s body, its geometry allowed –after it cooled down– for a better blood flow in the selected area. As a result, the applied suction widened blood vessels and caused hyperaemia or was followed by bleeding after skin incisions were made. This practice remained unchanged until recently due to its ergonomic and effective use.
