Pythagoras’ ”monochord” (single-stringed)

The monochord was an instrument used to study musical intervals in relation to the ratios of the string lengths that produced them.
It consisted of an oblong soundbox, one single string stretched over a graduated rule (“kanon”) and a moveable bridge (which allowed the division of the string length into several measurable ratios).
It was also called the Pythagorean Kanon so as to honour its inventor.
